What is it like to experience Reiki?
Reiki is a spiritual practice that originated in Japan. It is based on the belief that there is a life force energy flowing through all living beings, and when this energy is low or blocked, it can lead to physical, emotional, or spiritual imbalances or illnesses. Reiki practitioners aim to channel this universal life force energy to promote healing and well-being.
During a Reiki session, I’ll place my hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body, following a specific pattern or intuitively focusing on areas that need attention. I act as a conduit for the energy, allowing it to flow into the recipient. The energy is believed to go where it is most needed, supporting the body's natural healing processes.
The experience of receiving Reiki can vary from person to person. Some common descriptions of how it feels include:
Warmth and tingling sensations: Many people report feeling a gentle warmth or tingling in the areas being treated. This sensation can be relaxing and soothing.
Deep relaxation: Reiki often induces a state of deep relaxation, allowing recipients to enter a calm and peaceful state of mind. Some may even feel as if they are drifting off to sleep.
Emotional release: Reiki can sometimes stir up emotions or bring unresolved issues to the surface. This emotional release can lead to a sense of catharsis and relief.
Energising or rejuvenating: Reiki is also known to promote a sense of vitality and rejuvenation. Some people may experience an increase in energy levels after a session.
Pain relief: Reiki has been reported to alleviate physical pain and discomfort in some individuals.
